The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) South Luzon Cluster—comprised of DOST Regional Offices from the National Capital Region (NCR), Central Luzon (Region 3), CALABARZON (Region 4A), MIMAROPA (Region 4B), and Bicol (Region 5)—in partnership with the Provincial Government of Palawan, City Government of Puerto Princesa, Palawan State University, and Western Philippines University, and through the assistance of the DOST-Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI), will hold the 2015 Science Nation South Luzon Cluster Science & Technology Fair and Exhibits (SLC S&T Fair) from August 17 to 19 at the Puerto Princesa City Coliseum in Puerto Princesa City.
S&T Fairs and Exhibits are major activities of DOST, highlighting the Department’s new, continuing, and future projects and programs covering and focusing on the “8 DOST Outcomes”, which are: (1) Science-based know-how and tools that enable the agriculture sector to raise productivity to world-class standards; (2) Innovative, cost-effective and appropriate technologies that enable MSMEs to develop and produce competitive products that meet world-class standards; (3) State-of-the-art facilities and capabilities that enable local industries to move up the value chain and attain global competitiveness; (4) the Philippines as a global leader in Information Technology-Business Process Management Services; (5) ICT-based transformation of governance broadening access to government services; (6) Improved quality healthcare and quality of life through science, technology and innovation; (7) Highly skilled and globally competitive S&T human resources in support of the national S&T programs; and (8) Science-based information on weather, climate change and geological hazards to ensure the country’s survival and future in an era of extreme and rapidly changing climate.
This year’s SLC S&T Fair, hosted by DOST-MIMAROPA and underscored by the theme, Agham na Ramdam:Kaunlaran ang Ilalaan, features informative, inspiring, and engaging activities such as the enterprise development-related forum on ASEAN Integration and DOST’s Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP), and the ICT-related forum on Next Wave Cities. In addition, there will also be agriculture-related forums such as on smallholder poultry and swine production by the DOST-National Research Council of the Philippines (DOST-NRCP), as well as a forum on new developments pertaining to biogas technology. The DOST-Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (DOST-PNRI), on the other hand, will conduct a Science Quiz for high school students. There will also be a technology pitching activity wherein researchers and inventors will have the opportunity to present their technologies to audiences from the business sector / angel investors for possible commercialization.
Concurrent with the SLC S&T Fair is the 2015 Regional Invention Contests and Exhibits (RICE), which will highlight researches and inventions from the brightest young scientific minds from State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) all over the MIMAROPA Region.
Last, but not the least, DOST-MIMAROPA will hold an awarding ceremony to honor its best assisted technopreneurs, in both SETUP Core and Non-Core categories, as well as for the winners of the 2015 RICE.
And the best part? It’s absolutely open to the public; there are no entrance fees.
