(L-R) DOST-PCAARRD Acting Executive Director Dr. Reynaldo V. Ebora together with the MIMAROPA Regional Line Agencies and State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) representatives took their oath during the first MAARRDEC Regional Research and Development Coordinating Council (RRDCC) meeting held on March 12, 2019 at the DOST-PCAARRD Compound in Los Baños, Laguna.

To push for the development and advancement of the Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources (AANR) sector in the MIMAROPA region, DOST-MIMAROPA in collaboration with the MIMAROPA Regional Line Agencies (RLAs) and State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) will deepen cooperation through the establishment of the MIMAROPA Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (MAARRDEC).

MAARRDEC aims to build a stronger network exclusively dedicated to drum up scientific research and development initiatives particularly for the specific needs of the AANR sector such as but not limited to Tamaraw conservation, and marine and freshwater ecosystems.

Specifically, it aims to address key challenges and opportunities in the AANR sector through strategic research and development (R&D), capability building and governance, R&D dissemination and utilization, and policy analysis and advocacy. In addition, it will serve as the venue for collaborative interventions such as joint planning, monitoring, evaluation and sharing of resources among the member agencies.

The Mindoro State College of Agriculture and Technology (MinSCAT) serves as the host institution of the consortium. Its members include other MIMAROPA SUCs— Occidental Mindoro State College (OMSC), Marinduque State College (MSC), Romblon State University (RSU), Palawan State University (PSU), Western Philippines University (WPU); and concerned regional line agencies including the Department of Agriculture (DA), Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), and DA-Agricultural Training Institute (DA-ITI).
