The Pasalubong Center kiosk, installed at Sabang, Cabayugan, Puerto Princesa City, site of the world-famous Puerto Princesa Underground River (PPUR), was opened on November 20, 2013. It is an initiative of Nature’s Tropical Delight (NTD), a business assisted by the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) of DOST.
The main purpose of the kiosk is to be an outlet for processed food products that are developed and established by the Puerto Princesa City Government, the NTD, and DOST. While the establishment of these products is still in progress, other SETUP-assisted products are meanwhile being displayed and sold. Some of the DOST-assisted products sold during the opening were cashew-based delicacies such as otap, crunchies, tarts, polvoron and barquiron manufactured by RUM Food Products and Paraiso Sweets and Delicacies.
The kiosk will also add to employment opportunities for the locals. With an average of 30 employments per barangay, DOST-MIMAROPA, along with NTD, is most willing to help and train local residents in product development training assistance.
Representatives from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the Department of Tourism (DOT), the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the Office of the City Agriculturist, PPUR officials, and local residents also witnessed the event.
